Old Train Depot, Concord
Cabarrus Bank, Hotel Concord and Cabarrus County Courthouse on Union Street in Concord, NC
This series of four canvases are hanging on the right wall in the Community Way hallway past the History Wall in Atrium Health Cabarrus. The series, painted in acrylics with an oil wash, beautifully captures both historical and contemporary landmarks, including the old and new courthouses, Cabarrus Bank, Hotel Concord, Cabarrus Memorial Hospital (now Atrium Health Cabarrus), and the old Southern Railway train station.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Jennie Martin of Concord, a prominent artist and teacher, was commissioned by Dr. E. M. (Tommie) Tomlin of Cabarrus Urology Clinic to create this composite mural, which portrays iconic buildings of Concord.
This collaboration not only resulted in a visually captivating work of art but also sparked a profound personal connection between the artist and the commissioner, which eventually led to their marriage. Following their union, the artist began signing her work as Jennie Martin Tomlin. This mural stands as a testament not only to the rich history of Cabarrus County but also to a unique and enduring partnership that transformed their lives.
